Accessible web design for Canadian businesses
Keyboard traps, low contrast, broken forms and “mobile friendly” claims that still fail on real devices are not fixed by an overlay widget. You Go Media’s accessible, responsive web design programs help organizations across Canada build WCAG-minded interfaces into WordPress and PHP is a server-side programming language that runs many websites and web applications. We pair it with JavaScript, AJAX, jQuery and MySQL through PDO, and also work in Python, C++ and C# when a project needs them. Our focus is web-based applications.: semantics, keyboard paths, contrast, media alternatives and fluid layouts that work across devices.
Accessible, responsive web design is part of our Application Foundation services. This is not legal advice, and we do not certify compliance.
Forms people cannot complete and RFPs that ask for WCAG
People leave checkouts and forms they cannot complete; vendor RFPs often ask for WCAG-minded delivery; Manitoba organizations face publicly described Information & Communication Standard expectations for web content and web applications. The other common mistake: a visual redesign that never remediates focus order, labels, or touch targets.
If you need accessibility and responsive design built in, not another moodboard with no path to development, we scope a program in a consultation. An overlay widget on its own is not the answer. Deep Core Web Vitals problems are covered by technical SEO audits.
What “accessible and responsive” means in practice
- Perceivable and operable: contrast, text alternatives, keyboard access and visible focus, not a badge on a homepage
- Understandable and robust: clear forms and labels, predictable navigation, markup assistive tech can use
- Responsive as craft: fluid layouts, readable type and usable touch targets across real viewports, not just a 2014 buzzword
- Build-in, not bolt-on: semantic themes and templates over marketing overlays that claim to “fix” accessibility
Manitoba context: IC Standard and WCAG (education, not legal advice)
Public AccessibilityMB materials describe WCAG 2.1 Level AA expectations for covered web content and web applications under Manitoba’s Accessible Information and Communication Standard. Private-sector timelines and exceptions are defined in regulation and official checklists, so readers must verify their obligations with qualified counsel and the official texts.
Useful starting points (external): AccessibilityMB private-sector checklist (PDF), Man. Reg. 47/2022 on CanLII, and the W3C WCAG overview. WCAG 2.2 may be a sensible voluntary stretch target where appropriate, but it should not be confused with Manitoba’s stated 2.1 AA minimum in official checklists. Ontario AODA and the federal Accessible Canada Act are separate jurisdictions, and we do not blur them into one set of rules.
Audit first, or build it in from the start
- Audit vs build-in: remediation on existing WP/PHP is a server-side programming language that runs many websites and web applications. Our focus is web-based applications. estates, or bake accessibility into redesigns when that is cheaper
- How it gets built: WordPress themes and templates through WordPress development; ongoing care that prevents regressions through WordPress care; custom interfaces through custom PHP development
- Portals and storefronts: logged-in experiences on B2B web portals, and checkout on custom ecommerce development
- Conversion-minded design: UX and inquiry paths on web design, with accessibility depth from this service
- No compliance guarantees: we help you build; specialized auditors and counsel when certification or legal opinions are required

Common questions
Is this legal advice about Manitoba or AODA compliance?
No. We build WCAG-minded interfaces and point to official sources. Obligations, exceptions, and certification belong with counsel and specialized auditors.
Do accessibility overlays fix our site?
We prefer real semantic and design remediation. We fix accessibility in the code and content rather than relying on an overlay alone.
Does your team make the accessibility fixes, or only advise?
Our team makes them. Work starts with a consultation and a plan scoped to your site.
How does responsive design relate to accessibility?
They share the same craft: interfaces people can use on real devices, with keyboard access, assistive tech and readable layouts, rather than separate buzzword silos.
Do you work with organizations in other provinces?
Yes. We take on accessibility projects for organizations across Canada. Our Manitoba depth comes from working with the IC Standard locally; for other jurisdictions we say honestly that the rules differ and point you to the official sources. We do not invent offices.
