WordPress development without theme debt
$399 CAD plus applicable taxes, credited toward your program if Pay on Results is approved.
Theme debt, page-builder sprawl and “custom” brochure sites that cannot survive the next update still pass as WordPress strategy, until conversion paths break and nobody owns the CMS. You Go Media’s WordPress development programs build flexible, durable sites when a CMS is the simplest maintainable path: conversion-minded structure, honest plugin choices and a clear handoff to care, not another disposable theme.
Part of Application Foundation. When roles and workflows outgrow WordPress, we move the work to custom PHP.
Slow templates, brittle builders and plugin stacks
Marketing teams inherit slow templates, brittle builders and plugin stacks that cannot hold lead paths or content governance, while vendors sell another redesign that never fixes maintainability. The other common mistake is forcing custom application logic into WordPress when the product has already outgrown the CMS.
If the job is a conversion-focused WordPress build (information architecture, templates, forms and durable CMS craft), You Go Media scopes a program with you, with ongoing care available after launch. When WordPress is the wrong tool, see custom PHP development within Application Foundation.
What conversion WordPress builds cover here
- Durable CMS sites: content, forms and lead paths buyers can actually maintain
- Theme and template craft: solid structure over disposable page-builder layouts
- Careful plugin choices: quality existing plugins first, with private controls built through plugin development when needed
- CMS-fit first: WordPress when it is enough; custom PHP is a server-side programming language that runs many websites and web applications. We pair it with JavaScript, AJAX, jQuery and MySQL through PDO, and also work in Python, C++ and C# when a project needs them. Our focus is web-based applications. when it is not
- Conversion structure: page structure and navigation, CTAs and templates that support inquiries, not decoration
- Founder-accountable scoping: a named founder accountable for your scope, and no figures we cannot support
New build, rebuild or move onto WordPress
WordPress work starts from one of three situations, and each one is scoped differently:
- New build: there is no site, or nothing worth carrying over. Scoping covers page structure, templates, forms and the content your team will maintain.
- Rebuild of an existing WordPress site: WordPress is the right CMS, but the theme, page builder or plugin stack is not. Scoping starts with what to keep (content, URLs, integrations) and what to retire. We also take over WordPress sites that another developer built.
- Move onto WordPress from another platform: content, URLs and forms move across, with redirects planned to protect search equity. The search side runs through SEO migration.
If you are not sure which situation you are in, that is the first thing we settle with you.
How a WordPress project runs, and what you sign off
- Scoping: pages, templates, forms, integrations and anything handled separately, set out in writing with the price
- Design: layouts for the key templates, through web design when the project includes it, approved by you before the build starts
- Staging build: the site built on a private staging address, so you review real pages before anything goes live
- QA: plugin conflicts, form delivery, mobile templates and calls to action checked on staging
- Launch: the approved staging build moved to production, with redirects in place for any changed URLs
- Care handover: updates, security and support move to WordPress care if you choose it
The timing of each stage is set in the written scope.
Code, access and ownership in your scope
A WordPress site that only its original developer can maintain is a liability. Ownership is settled during scoping and written into the scope. The aim is a site another developer could take over without a rebuild, and the scope covers:
- Theme or child-theme code written for your site
- Private plugin code, when the project includes WordPress plugin development
- Administrator and hosting access, with accounts in your name where possible
- Documentation of the templates, custom fields and plugins in use
Third-party plugins and themes stay under their makers’ licences. We do not resell licences by default, so paid licences can be held in your name and move with the site.
What WordPress care costs after launch
Care is the ongoing cost of owning a site, so it belongs in the plan from the start. Prices are in CAD, plus applicable taxes:
- WordPress care Basic, $49.95/month CAD: updates and security, plus form spam and bot management
- WordPress care Plus, $99/month CAD: adds backups, uptime monitoring and malware scans, and includes 1 ticket hour per month, with no carry-over
- Support tickets, $150/hour CAD: changes outside the plan, billed in 15-minute increments
- Prepaid blocks, $125/hour CAD: a 5-hour minimum per purchase
For an existing WordPress site, care starts with a care assessment, from $149.95 CAD, plus applicable taxes. The assessment fee is credited toward any project or retainer that acts on its findings, if you proceed within 60 days of delivery. See WordPress care for what each plan includes.
Your first step, for a new build or an existing site
A new WordPress build starts with an initial consultation, a non-refundable retainer to build your plan: $399 CAD plus applicable taxes, credited toward your program if Pay on Results is approved.
If an existing site needs assessing before you decide, we usually recommend starting with a technical diagnostic (from $1,495 CAD plus applicable taxes), credited toward the follow-on work if you proceed within 60 days of delivery.
When to stay on WordPress, and when to leave
Stay when content and maintainable CMS craft win. Leave when authentication, roles, workflows or integrations demand an application, then hire custom PHP for end-to-end delivery across Canada. For UX and conversion design, see web design.

WordPress development questions
Is this a WordPress theme tutorial?
No. This is a consultation-led service for WordPress builds that convert, not DIY how-to content.
How is this different from WordPress care?
Development covers new or rebuilt CMS sites. WordPress care covers maintenance after launch, on the monthly plans priced above.
When should we leave WordPress for custom PHP?
When roles, workflows or integrations outgrow the CMS. We agree the decision criteria with you, with a clear path to the right Application Foundation service.
Do you force page builders on every project?
No. Maintainable templates beat disposable builder debt. Tooling is scoped to the engagement.
Do you take WordPress projects from other provinces or the US?
Yes. We build WordPress sites for clients across Canada and the US, working from Winnipeg, Manitoba.
